TEAM / OUR STORY

Once again,
we chose to build together.

There was a company we had grown together.
Yet when the rights we had been promised came into dispute, we had to spend years explaining our role in that company in court.

But we had already made a new start, establishing YBK in October 2021. Throughout the litigation that followed, we never stopped making the next product.

From POTENSHOP through WBSKIN to YBK today. This is the story of the people who lived those years together.

2015 — TODAYSmall beginnings. Brands built together. A team that came together again.

01 THE BEGINNING

In a small company,
we began learning what people cared about.

Jeonpo-dong, Busan, 2015. 국현준 and 양희찬 founded a small company called POTENSHOP. We began by managing Facebook pages, creating content as we learned which stories caught people's attention and what they wanted to know.

The experience we gained from watching those responses led us to develop products ourselves. One of the first was the roomy baseball cap known as 대두볼캡. We focused on things customers could immediately recognize, such as the cap's size and its silhouette when worn, shaping both the product and how we introduced it.

Our range grew from the 대두볼캡 to the 왕대두볼캡 and bucket hats. Each launch brought us to the next question. What size and shape did people need? How could we show the product so its features were clear? People who had started out creating content were beginning to grow into people who made products.

But while a sentence introducing a product could be short, standing behind it took much longer. The expectation created on a screen had to become satisfaction with the item in someone's hands. Only then would customers have a reason to choose us again.

Our products had to be as good
as the words we used to introduce them.

02 WHAT WE BUILT

We began to dream bigger.
Together.

In 2017, the experience we had built became part of a joint business at WBSKIN. The people we had worked with at POTENSHOP, the suppliers who provided our products, and the channels through which we created and shared content. We brought those foundations into the new business.

MURO · Paul Medison
TREATROOM · LamuDali, among others

These were brands we helped create and grow at WBSKIN. We planned products, refined designs, prepared photography and content, and watched how customers responded in the market. Our responsibilities differed, but our work came together in the same products.

As the number of brands grew, so did the work. We had to understand what made each product different, find the words that would reach the people who needed it, and bring their responses after the sale into the next product brief. Within the team, we were learning how to turn a single success into something we could repeat.

Through that work, WBSKIN grew into a company with revenue in the tens of billions of Korean won. Our ambitions grew too: we began looking toward a combined revenue scale approaching KRW 100 billion across POTENSHOP and WBSKIN.

At the time, we thought our dream had come true. We imagined making many more products, and building a much bigger future, with these same people. We believed that as the company grew, our years together would grow with it.

03 THE YEARS WE STOOD THROUGH

Yet we had to prove in court
what we had built together.

In 2021, we left the company after disagreements over the business and shareholding. Promises we had once taken for granted became rights we needed a court to recognize.

The years we had worked together were real. Yet to explain them, we had to return to the records. Who had been responsible for which work? What people and business relationships had we contributed? What promises had brought us into the business at the start? We retraced the days we had spent making products through documents and evidence.

Still, what we wanted recognized throughout was our place as people who had started and grown the business together, and the rights promised to us at the time. That process continued for years.

Then, in the 2024 first-instance judgment and the 2026 appeal judgment, the courts recognized the two co-founders' joint business agreement and their rights to WBSKIN shares under that agreement. The rulings required the shares to be transferred and the corresponding names in the shareholder register to be changed.

In reaching those decisions, the courts also examined how POTENSHOP's people, business relationships, product planning, and content and advertising capabilities had contributed to WBSKIN's growth. The judgments recorded that we had started and grown the business as joint business partners.

For the work we had shared and the promises made at the beginning,
recognition took a long time.

Seoul Central District Court · First instanceClaims granted for the transfer of 2,450 WBSKIN shares to each co-founder and the corresponding changes to the shareholder register.
Seoul High Court · AppealThe first-instance findings on the joint business agreement and those share rights were upheld.

Seoul Central District Court, 2023가단5309597 · Seoul High Court, 2024나2053469

Going through this made the standard we had wanted to uphold since our new start in 2021 even clearer. A place where people are respected and can keep doing their work for years to come. That is the kind of workplace we want YBK to remain.

But we came together again
before the judgment.

In October 2021, three years before the first-instance civil judgment, core members of our earlier team came together again to establish YBK Corporation. Seeking recognition of our past rights and building a new company would continue alongside one another in the years that followed.

The company had a new name, but we already knew one another's abilities and approach to work. These were people who had thought through products, refined designs, and found the words to reach customers. The time we had spent working together meant we knew how to work together again.

Of course, “starting again” takes only a moment to say. The work itself was concrete: planning products, establishing brands, preparing the photographs and descriptions customers would see, and watching their responses after a sale. One step at a time, we returned to familiar work under a new company name.

We put that experience into AKEI and other new brands. We expanded into lines including MOVE, LIVING and DERMA, as customers chose our products for the things they needed in everyday life.

And the work continued after each launch. We revised product pages and tested how our content and advertising communicated. AKEI's story, featured in an official Coupang case study in 2024, captures one part of that process.

From there, we also broadened the markets where we met customers. In 2024, we were selected for the Early-Stage Startup Package and an online export support program, while continuing our business on overseas platforms including Lazada, Shopee, Rakuten and Qoo10.

In court, we explained our past.
At work, we made the next product.

05 STILL TOGETHER

Today, we are still
people who make things.

But years of making products do not make the next decision easy. If anything, experience makes us ask more carefully. Is this feature really necessary? Is anything awkward in everyday use? Can we fully stand behind the way we describe it?

From thinking through the features of a single cap at POTENSHOP to working across household products and brands today, one question has stayed with us. Once someone holds this product in their hands, will they have a reason to choose us again?

That is why we think beyond the product brief to what happens after an item reaches a customer's hands. We bring disappointment, as well as praise, into the next product. Answering through the things we make is the work we want to keep doing.

Today's team includes both people who have been with us for years and colleagues who have recently joined. New perspectives meet the experience we have built, and different strengths come together in the next product. Little by little, the team that reunited is becoming a new team too.

The way we work together has also changed. In 2025, we moved to working from home and revised our communication and work management systems. Even when we work from different places, connecting planning, design, content and sales within each product remains a shared responsibility.

So we want our experience to show in the quality of the next product. The years we endured together, and the strength that allowed us to begin again, will be part of what we make next.

We came together again.
And today,
we are still building together.
